What are the symptoms of spleen problems in dogs?
The spleen is situated on the left side of the abdomen, close to the stomach. It is smaller in size than the liver but larger than a kidney. It is sometimes described as being shaped like a slipper because it is long and narrow with curved borders and has a narrower part in the middle.
How long will a dog live after spleen removed?
Vomiting, inappetence, weight loss, low energy, pale mucus membranes (gums), or simply enlargement of their abdomen can be symptoms that a pet exhibits when there is a problem with their spleen. A veterinarian may incidentally find a mass when palpating the abdomen on yearly health exams.
What causes cancer of the spleen in dogs?
By removing the spleen, the bleeding issues will resolve, and your pet will live a further three to six months even without further treatment, even if the mass has spread.
Is an enlarged spleen painful for dogs?
Unfortunately, we do not know what causes or predisposes animals to develop this type of cancer but it is believed to have some genetic predisposition as German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Labradors are overrepresented.
